Developing an excellent digital strategy with dotSource: TEAG Thüringer Energie AG refreshes the design and features of its online channels

Together with the Jena-based digital agency dotSource, the Private and Commercial Customer Sales division of the long-established Thuringian energy supplier TEAG optimised its website through a stronger focus on target groups and future-proof concepts. The dotSource digital experts provided support in the areas of strategy consulting, brand and UX design as well as online and social media marketing.

Thinking about tomorrow today – for players in the energy industry, this involves not only the shift towards more sustainable energy models, but also the optimisation of their digital offerings and channels for a younger target group. TEAG Thüringer Energie AG worked with the digital agency dotSource to address this challenge: after a strategy consultation, dotSource developed appealing visuals that play an important role in the new engaging content and social media marketing concept for TEAG's sales channels.

Multi-Stream Project for Successful Digital Transformation

At the beginning, the main priorities were a strategic realignment of the online portfolio of TEAG's Private and Commercial Customer Sales division as well as a stronger focus on target groups. That is why the collaboration of the two big players from Thuringia started with comprehensive workshops and the creation of personas, supervised by the dotSource strategy team.

Following this, the dotSource UXD team improved the website's user experience and designed new technical elements such as the transparent tariff calculator on teag.de. In terms of content, existing motifs were used, for example TEAG's mascot »HuBÄRt«, a teddy bear that was turned into a digital brand ambassador. In addition, the dotSource UXD team developed a new, appealing key visual for the carbon-neutral tariff called »TEAG.Gas natur«: the heart consisting of gas flames, together with the newly devised slogan »Aus Wärme wächst Zukunft« (»Thermal energy for a better future«), underlines the energy supplier's environmental awareness.

Award-Winning Customer Communication Through Omnichannel Marketing

Together, the teams developed a successful omnichannel campaign to promote the tariffs offered by TEAG Thüringer Energie AG. The design and content elements were integrated into both the existing website and specially created new landing pages, ensuring brand recognition and a feel-good atmosphere for customers. A particular highlight was the development of the Instagram account @der_hubaert, which is intended to strengthen TEAG's brand awareness, especially among the younger target group.

The close communication with customers is well received and even led to TEAG winning the Energiewende Award (energy transition award) in 2021. In the »Energieeffizienz« (energy efficiency) category, the award acknowledged TEAG's environmentally friendly tariffs and their presentation on digital channels.

Moving Towards a Digital Future with Strong Teamwork

This successful combination of various elements to build digital customer loyalty was possible thanks to the strong cross-team collaboration at the full stack agency dotSource, as confirmed by Stefanie Coblenz, Online Marketing and E-Commerce Manager at TEAG: »It was especially the out-of-the-box perspective, openness and holistic approach that strengthened our trust in dotSource. In order to build on these successes, TEAG's Private and Commercial Customer Sales division not only plans to continue working with dotSource in the areas of strategy consulting, UXD as well as online and social media marketing. The Jena-based digital agency will also implement an integration platform and further campaigns for the Thuringian energy supplier.
