Press Release
Despite the difficult economic situation in 2023, the digital agency dotSource managed to achieve a revenue growth of five per cent. The 530 digital specialists generated around 39 million euros across offices at six locations. Moreover, numerous changes, such as a new legal form, were implemented in 2023 to kick off 2024 with renewed vigour.
2023 was not an easy year for the economy and for digital agencies – for the first time in its history, the German e-commerce industry did not experience any growth. Even major players in the digital industry have been feeling the effects of subdued consumer behaviour.
dotSource SE experienced the effects of this in the form of a significantly lower revenue growth of »only« five per cent. »In the current economic situation, many companies would be very pleased with this figure,« says Christian Otto Grötsch, founder and executive director, when referring to the revenue growth of 39 million euros. The Jena-based company's versatility allows it to start 2024 with optimism.
Change Is the Only Constant
There was a lot going on at dotSource in 2023. Not only in the development of the new dotSource Campus in Jena, but also in the organisation as a whole: Janine Bohnenberg being officially declared as the fourth executive director was followed by the launch of the first international office in Rijeka (Croatia) in the spring. To complete the internationalisation process and facilitate working alongside the Croatian colleagues, the digital agency officially changed its legal form to dotSource SE – an international organisation – in June. With the two original founders, Christian Otto Grötsch and Christian Malik, remaining part of the management, the digital agency can continue to benefit from short communication channels and a family-like atmosphere.
2023 also brought numerous developments on the technical level – the emergence of generative AI has kept the entire digital industry on its toes. For dotSource, this meant investing in new AI expertise throughout the company and driving the implementation of corresponding services in various areas such as product information management, content management and e-commerce.
Ready for 2024 Thanks to Adaptability
Combining these strengths will prepare the company for a successful year. Grötsch quotes Erich Kästner, saying »optimism is a must« when looking towards 2024. »In its 18 years of existence, dotSource has overcome many crises, and we have often observed that we are the first ones our clients reach out to when the economy picks up again,« explains the founder and executive director.
dotSource has made use of its diverse transformation processes in 2023 to prepare for further growth: the agency still has the same vision to reach 100 million euros in revenue and 1,000 employees in the next few years.
