Press Release
In just six months, the digital agency dotSource was able to realise a PIM project at Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG that is unique of its kind to date. Five ERP systems were connected to a single PIM system. The connection reduced a set consisting of 100,000 data to 65,000 by means of an automated duplicate matching process. This created a »golden record« from which all employees at all locations worldwide now benefit. At this year’s Handelskraft Conference on the 19th of March in Stuttgart, PIM specialist Timothy Axon and Tania Sperling, Head of Global eShops at Heidelberg Digital Unit, will grant exclusive insights into the project.
Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) has stood for quality and future viability for more than 160 years. The company has set itself the mission to help shape the digital future of the industry. In this context, the Heidelberg Digital Unit (HDU) team has been continually expanding the e-commerce presence, activities and digital marketing of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen in a future-proof way since 2018, thus transforming its own core competencies from analogue to digital in order to set the course for new business models. The Heidelberg company also aims to support its customers in their digital procurement processes for consumables and spare parts.
To create some of the necessary prerequisites, the company commissioned the experts of the Jena digital agency dotSource. The technical framework for a project of this magnitude was set with the help of the Stibo Systems solution »STEP«. Afterwards, dotSource developed automated rules, workflows, structures, ex- and imports, etc. to be able to implement all requirements of the customer. With the new Stibo Systems solution, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG was able to connect all ERP systems to a single PIM system for the first time. This connection made it possible to consolidate 100,000 product data and reduce them to 65,000 product and master data with the help of 54 contexts (combination of country and language). In addition, this data automatically flows into the respective shop navigation structure and finds the matching assets in the system. All transactional data can now be prepared, used and managed profitably. The manual effort for Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG was thus reduced enormously and the way for more efficient business processes, new business fields and a digital future was cleared. All employees at all locations worldwide benefit from this golden record because the new software supports both the current and the future online shop.
»This pioneering project would not have been possible without the mutual and strong trust between us and dotSource, let alone in only six months. In record time, the dynamic and courageous team from Jena realised a project that currently is unique of its kind and takes us a huge step forward in our digital transformation, but above all makes us more competitive,« Tania Sperling, Head of Global eShops at Heidelberg Digital Unit, says. Together with her colleague Timothy Axon, PIM specialist at HDU, Tania Sperling will give exclusive insights into the introduction of the PIM system at this year’s Handelskraft Conference in Stuttgart. The speech will provide insights into the applied approach, learnings and results. More information on the Handelskraft Conference 2020 can be found here.
