Secure and visually appealing digital landscape for Ottobock, the global market leader in prosthetics

26 April 2023

Press Release

Jena/Duderstadt – Together with the digital agency dotSource, Ottobock SE & Co. KGaA has succeeded in further digitalising its business processes. For this purpose, the digital experts implemented a new content management system (CMS) as well as a tool for master data management (MDM). These two software applications have contributed to a better user experience for both employees and customers of the orthopaedic technology group.

For more than 100 years, Ottobock SE & Co. KGaA has stood for advanced technologies in the field of prosthetics and is also acting as a driving force in the further development of wearable human bionics these days – artificial intelligence in prosthetics and orthotics. To reflect the progressiveness of these products in the digital infrastructure, Ottobock has been working together with dotSource to optimise its channels: the usability of the company's website has been taken to the next level with a new CMS from Contentful. Moreover, Ottobock is now making use of an MDM system, thereby enhancing its master data quality and reducing the maintenance effort for its employees.

Secure and Efficient Management of Sensitive Data

Data quality plays an extremely important role in the med-tech industry. Hence, over the course of the optimisation of its international digital landscape, Ottobock particularly focused on securely and clearly structuring its master data. With Stibo's MDM system, the digitalisation experts at dotSource provided an ideal basis for automatically validating data in accordance with the highest standards, thereby reducing the manual effort required.

»With dotSource, we have a reliable partner at our side. Together, we have created a central platform for managing and distributing high-quality master data that can also meet future requirements,« Alexandra Dzimalle, Business Process Architect at Ottobock, comments on the collaboration.

Thanks to the integration with the existing ERP tool and – in the near future – other systems, the clean database is the perfect foundation for the further successful development of a holistic digital experience platform for Ottobock. The new CMS is the first step in this process.

Visually Appealing Website for Diverse Target Groups from the Med-Tech Industry

A company's website is about offering users a complete experience within the brand universe. For Ottobock, this means providing a website with clear navigation for the different stakeholders. It must contain information on the prostheses, orthoses and other products sold, along with a tool for finding experts nearby. In addition, training materials and courses offered by the Ottobock Academy should also be clearly listed on the website.

To meet all these requirements, Ottobock and dotSource decided to implement a headless CMS from Contentful. The component-based tool enables each of the 45 country-specific websites to independently manage their content while still benefitting from the central infrastructure. The user experience on ottobock.com was optimised through an improved search function and an overall increase in performance across all country-specific websites. Particular emphasis was placed on the accessibility of the website.
