bofrost* Dienstleistungs GmbH & Co. KG was founded in 1966 by Josef H. Boquoi in Issum in the Lower Rhine region and currently has around 11,000 employees. bofrost* is the European market leader in direct distribution of ice cream and frozen food specialities and operates in twelve countries. About four million households are supplied directly. Particularly in times of the Corona crisis, the business is booming.

bofrost* has always wanted to offer its customers a convenient shopping and culinary experience directly at the kitchen table. Besides catalogue ordering and an online shop, the company also offers customer consulting via telephone and face-to-face. This service-oriented approach is all the more valuable in times where many customers feel insecure. Not least with the redesign of the online shop and the integration of pioneering features, bofrost* demonstrates its far-sighted strategy.

bofrost* and SAP Commerce: Various Features for a Heterogeneous User Group

Initial Situation

E-food is an important growth market in the e-commerce sector, not only since a pandemic in 2020 has presented the world with unexpected challenges in terms of everyday supply. In the context of the e-food trend, demands on players have increased in terms of inventory and logistics, and technological solutions for online business have to be up-to-date, flexible and scalable. The cooperation between dotSource and bofrost* was thus aimed at a future-oriented relaunch of the bofrost* online shop in order to modernise it in the long term and to optimise it for customers with impairments, for example colour vision deficiency, and customers with food intolerances.

Project Scope & Services

The relaunch was initially focused on changing the shop system. bofrost* chose SAP Commerce because this e-commerce software ensures excellent usability and data maintenance and performs particularly well at high access rates.

After the relaunch, the shop impressed with a new and fresh design by the dotSource UX team. Short load times, easy access, an optimised view for mobile devices and a comprehensive search function are further characteristics of the shop.

The latter feature is particularly important for many customers: certain ingredients can be excluded deliberately – and it is possible to search for certain ingredients.

A recipe section with exciting content commerce aspects rounds off the successful new web presence of bofrost*. The tradition-steeped company based in the Lower Rhine region is thus leading the way in terms of e-food – even or particularly in times of unusually high order volumes.
